This picture was sent to my “beloved husband” by me.

When I sent my husband a picture of me standing next to our neighbor’s horse, it was just another day. At the time, I didn’t think much of it.

For some time, I worked at the stables and my favorite horse was Thunder, a big black one. He was gentle and kind, even though he was big.

Things changed though when my husband saw the picture. He zoomed in and looked at it over and over again. Then, out of the blue, his message came.

“I need to split up.”

I believed it was a joke. Then he called, and it was clear that he was mad from the sound of his voice.

He asked, “How long has this been going on?”

“Do you mean to say that?” I asked in confusion.

He snapped, “The shadow.” “Backwards.” “Don’t lie to me.”

I went cold. After that, I looked at the picture once more and saw what he had seen.

The back of my neck was in the shadow of Thunder’s head, making it look like a man was standing behind me with his hands around my waist.

At that moment, I understood what he thought. It looked like I wasn’t by myself to him.

He wouldn’t believe me no matter how many times I told him it was just the horse’s shadow. He was set in his ways, and telling him otherwise wouldn’t change it. The picture was a cruel trick; it changed reality just enough to make him lose trust in an instant. Not only did the picture break our hearts, but so did their faith in us. From then on, he had doubts about everything, and no explanation could fix the damage.
