This brave soldier used his body as a shield

William Kyle Carpenter was the architect. It’s possible that you aren’t familiar with his name, but there’s no doubting the fact that he is a genuine American hero.

When Kyle was 21 years old, he joined the United States Marine Corps and was given the rank of Lance Corporal. In 2010, he was sent on a mission to Afghanistan.

During the course of a battle, a grenade fell to the ground close to where Kyle and another Marine were fighting. Without pausing for a moment, Kyle rushed into action…

It was a split-second choice that not only exemplified Kyle’s toughness but also had the potential to alter the course of his life irrevocably. In order to shield his friend from the grenade’s blast, Kyle dove on top of it and used his body as a shield.

He made the ultimate sacrifice by giving up his life in order to save one of his fellow Marines.

As a direct consequence of the subsequent explosion, he was left in a critical condition. His body was riddled with shrapnel, and the bones in his head and face had been crushed in the explosion. In addition, Kyle suffered from the loss of a piece of his jaw, the collapse of one of his lungs, and was given the designation of P.E.A. (patient expired on arrival) when he returned to Camp Bastion.

Over the course of the next two years, Kyle was mandated to undergo a total of forty different procedures. In recognition of his bravery, President Barack Obama conferred upon him the prestigious Medal of Honor in addition to the Purple Heart, which was awarded to him.

Since then, Kyle has stepped away from his career in the military to concentrate on his education at the University of South Carolina.

A genuine American hero. The video that can be watched below will go into further detail about Kyle’s story:
