Superstar Battles Little-Known Disease Once Thought to Be History

Global pop icon Robbie Williams has revealed that he was recently diagnosed with scurvy, a disease historically associated with 17th-century sailors and pirates — and virtually unheard of in the modern developed world.

In a candid interview, the 51-year-old former Take That star opened up about the shocking diagnosis, attributing it to an extended period of poor nutrition and appetite suppression.

“I’d stopped eating properly. I was using these appetite suppressants, and I just wasn’t hungry,” Williams admitted. “It got so bad, I ended up with scurvy. Scurvy! I didn’t even think that was a real thing anymore.”

🥀 A Shocking Turn for a Global Star

Scurvy is caused by a severe deficiency of vitamin C, and symptoms include fatigue, muscle weakness, joint pain, and bleeding gums. Once considered a disease of the past, especially among seafarers who lacked access to fresh fruits and vegetables, it’s now extremely rare in modern societies.

Robbie’s diagnosis, however, paints a sobering picture of how modern lifestyle choices and extreme dieting can lead to serious health consequences — even among the rich and famous.

“My wife was really worried,” Williams said. “I’d become obsessed with controlling my weight, and I just wasn’t listening to my body.”

🧠 A Mental and Physical Wake-Up Call

Williams also opened up about the mental health impact of his decline, sharing that the scurvy diagnosis came at a time when he was already battling anxiety and depression. He said the experience forced him to reassess not just his diet, but his relationship with fame, aging, and self-image.

“It’s been humbling,” he said. “To go from selling out stadiums to being told you’ve got a disease sailors had 400 years ago? It puts things in perspective.”

❤️ Fans React with Shock and Support

The revelation has sparked widespread concern and support from fans, with many praising the artist for his honesty and vulnerability. On social media, messages flooded in, thanking Williams for shedding light on a health issue many wouldn’t think could still affect someone today.

Medical professionals also weighed in, using the moment to remind the public of the importance of balanced nutrition, especially in an era where diet fads and image pressures often overshadow physical well-being.

🎤 Looking Ahead

Despite the health scare, Williams says he’s on the mend — now following a doctor-supervised nutrition plan and working on new music.

“I’ve been through a lot, but I’m still here, still fighting, and still singing,” he said with a smile.

Robbie Williams’ journey serves as a stark reminder that health doesn’t discriminate — and even the biggest stars can fall victim to the dangers of extreme lifestyles.
