NEIGHBORS HATED THE COLOR OF MY HOUSE AND REPAINTED IT WHILE I WAS AWAY — I WAS ENRAGED & TOOK MY REVENGE.

My house is on a corner lot. Two years ago, a newlywed couple moved in next door and immediately made weird comments about my house’s yellow color. Soon, they outright DEMANDED I paint it a different color.

My house has always been yellow; I love it, and there’s no rule against it.
They called the police and the city on me, but both told them to back off since I hadn’t done anything wrong.

They even tried suing me (the suit got tossed, and they had to pay my legal fees) and attempted to rally our neighbors to form an HOA to force me to repaint. Our neighbors told them to get lost, so now they’re alienated by everyone.

I had to go out of town for two weeks, and when I got back, my house was GRAY. I almost drove past it because I’m so used to my yellow house. The neighbor from across the street came over and showed me pictures he took of the painting company setting up and doing the work. He and another neighbor called the police, but the painting company had a valid work order and had been paid, so the police couldn’t do anything.
It seemed everything done to my house was legal and no damage was done. But I was enraged and planned my revenge.

I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down. I wasn’t about to let those entitled neighbors get away with this. They wanted a war? Fine. I was ready.

Step 1: The Paper Trail

First, I called the painting company and pretended to be a confused homeowner. “I’m just reviewing the work done to my house. Could you send me a copy of the work order?” They happily emailed it over. And guess whose name was on it? My lovely neighbors.

That was all I needed.

Step 2: The Legal Hammer

With the work order in hand, I marched straight to my lawyer’s office. Since they had trespassed on my property and altered my home without permission, I had every right to demand compensation—both for damages and repainting it back to my original color.

The lawsuit was filed within the week.

Step 3: The Pettiest Revenge

While waiting for the lawsuit to play out, I had another idea. If they wanted to be petty, I could out-petty them.

So, I installed massive floodlights on my property, all facing their bedroom windows. A little too bright? Too bad. I also planted a row of the most obnoxiously colorful flowers I could find along the fence separating our houses—bright yellows, reds, and oranges. My property? My choice.

And for the final touch, I painted my house back to its original bright yellow—but this time, I went even brighter. Think banana yellow with a hint of neon.

The Aftermath

My neighbors LOST IT. They tried complaining to the city again, but they had no case. Meanwhile, their bank accounts took a major hit when my lawsuit went through. The judge ordered them to pay for all repainting costs, my legal fees, and extra damages for trespassing.

With their reputation already in shambles in the neighborhood, they had enough. A “For Sale” sign went up in their yard within three months.

As I watched them move out, I made sure to stand on my bright yellow porch, sipping lemonade, and giving them a friendly wave.

Moral of the story: Don’t mess with someone else’s house. 😏
