How To Properly Dispose of Ticks

Ticks are small arachnids that feed on the blood of mammals, birds, and sometimes reptiles and amphibians.

While they may seem harmless, ticks can carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans through their bites.

Proper removal and disposal of ticks are essential to reduce the risk of contracting tick-borne illnesses.

✅ 1. Do Not Crush the Tick with Your Fingers

  • Crushing a tick can release infectious fluids (like Borrelia burgdorferi, which causes Lyme disease).
  • This can increase your risk of exposure, especially if you have small cuts or wounds.
  • 🚫 3. Don’t Flush It Down the Toilet
    • Ticks are resilient and may survive flushing, especially in cooler water.
    • It’s not a reliable method for killing or containing them.
