Newly released findings have shed light on the tragic death of a young college football player, revealing critical details about the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
Dominiq Ponder, a 23-year-old quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes, died following a single-vehicle crash in Boulder County, Colorado.
According to an autopsy report, Ponder had a blood alcohol content of 0.167%, more than double the legal limit of 0.08%, at the time of the accident.

Authorities say the crash occurred around 3 a.m., when Ponder lost control of his 2023 Tesla while driving at a high speed. The vehicle struck a guardrail and an electrical pole before flipping over.
Despite wearing a seatbelt, Ponder suffered multiple blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tragedy has deeply affected the Colorado football community. Head coach Deion Sanders described Ponder as a “born leader” who was respected by teammates and coaches alike.
In the wake of his death, Ponder’s family has spoken out, urging young people to make responsible decisions. His mother emphasized that even one poor decision can have devastating consequences, and she hopes his story will inspire others to look out for one another.

To honor his legacy, the family has launched a foundation aimed at promoting responsible decision-making among young adults, particularly student-athletes.
Ponder, originally from Florida, had transferred to Colorado after beginning his college career at Bethune-Cookman University. Though his time on the field was limited, he was widely remembered for his character, leadership, and positive presence within the team.
His death serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the lasting impact of split-second decisions.
