The music world is mourning the loss of a rising rap star following a tragic and shocking incident in Georgia.

Lil Poppa, whose real name was Janarious Mykel Wheeler, died at the age of 25 after a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities confirmed.

According to police reports, the incident began after the rapper was involved in a car crash on Interstate 85 near Hapeville, Georgia. Despite the crash, his vehicle remained operational, and he contacted his manager in a distressed state for help.

His manager directed him to a nearby hotel parking lot to meet. While still seated inside his vehicle and speaking with her, Wheeler suddenly pulled out a firearm and shot himself in front of her.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported him to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Fulton County Medical Examiner officially ruled his death a suicide.

Lil Poppa was widely regarded as one of the most promising voices in Southern hip-hop. He gained recognition with tracks like “Love & War” and had built a loyal fan base through his emotional storytelling and introspective lyrics.

Just days before his death, he had released new music, continuing to expand his growing discography. His label, Collective Music Group, paid tribute to him, describing him as a talented artist with “endless potential.”

Following news of his passing, fans and fellow artists flooded social media with tributes, expressing shock and grief over the sudden loss.

The tragedy has also sparked conversations about mental health awareness, particularly within the music industry, as many reflect on the pressures faced by young artists.
