My Sister Abandoned Her Foster Daughter After Having a Son — She Faced Consequences Instantly

My Sister Abandoned Her Foster Daughter After Having a Son — She Faced Consequences Instantly

It had been months since we’d last seen Erin. When she gave birth to a baby boy, the whole family packed up and went to celebrate.

I walked in with gifts, thrilled to finally meet my nephew—and to see my goddaughter, Lily.

But Lily wasn’t there.

“Where’s Lily?” I asked casually.

Erin froze, glanced at her boyfriend, then shrugged.

“Oh. I gave her back.”

The room fell silent.

“You—what?” My chest tightened.

She smirked. “I always wanted a boy. Now I have one. Why would I need a daughter?”

My stomach churned.

“You GAVE HER BACK?! Erin, she’s a child, not some return item!”

She rolled her eyes. “Relax. She wasn’t really mine anyway. Just… temporary.”

That’s when I snapped.

Temporary? Lily was my goddaughter. She had been the light in my darkest years, the little girl who helped fill the emptiness left after my miscarriages.

“TEMPORARY?!” My voice shook. “You let her call you ‘Mom.’ You tucked her in at night. And you tossed her aside the second you got your ‘real’ kid?!”

Erin scoffed. “She was a foster kid. It’s not the same.”

My whole body trembled with rage.

And then—sharp, urgent knocks rattled the front door.

The knocks came again—louder this time. Everyone froze.

Erin’s boyfriend shuffled to the door and pulled it open. Standing there were two people in suits: a social worker and a uniformed officer.

“Erin Matthews?” the social worker asked, stepping inside.

Erin’s face drained of color.

“What’s going on?” she muttered.

The officer spoke firmly. “We received reports about the sudden disruption of foster placement. We need to ask you some questions.”

Erin stiffened. “I told you—I gave her back. That’s it.”

The social worker’s eyes narrowed. “That’s not *it*. Lily was in your care. She’s not some package you can hand over when you’re finished. We have reason to believe you violated multiple agreements—and traumatized her in the process.”

Erin’s smirk faltered. “You can’t prove anything.”

“Oh, we can,” the officer replied. “And you’ll need to come with us to discuss it.”

Erin looked around the room, desperate for backup, but no one moved. My parents looked ashamed. Her boyfriend looked like he wanted to disappear.

I finally spoke, my voice icy.

“Lily trusted you. And you broke her. You don’t deserve to be anyone’s mother.”

Erin opened her mouth to argue, but the officer gently took her by the arm and guided her outside. The door slammed behind them.

The house was silent.

I set my gifts down on the table—untouched—and walked out. My heart ached, not for my sister, but for the little girl who had once called her *Mom*.

That night, I called the agency myself. I told them that if Lily needed a home, if she needed *someone*—I was here. Always.

Because children aren’t temporary. They’re forever.
