Music world mourns sudden loss in tragic crash

The music world is mourning the sudden loss of Grammy-nominated singer and actress Angie Stone, who died in a car accident on March 1, 2025, at the age of 63.

The crash occurred in Montgomery, Alabama, when the vehicle she was traveling in overturned and was struck by an 18-wheeler. Stone was killed instantly, while nine other passengers survived the collision

Born Angela Laverne Brown in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone rose to fame in the late 1970s as a founding member of the pioneering female hip-hop trio The Sequence, best known for their 1979 hit “Funk You Up.”

She later transitioned to a successful solo R&B career, releasing acclaimed albums such as Black Diamond and Mahogany Soul, which featured the timeless track “Wish I Didn’t Miss You.” Over her decades-long career, she earned three Grammy nominations and collaborated with artists like D’Angelo, Alicia Keys, and Lenny Kravitz .

Stone was also active in television and film, appearing in reality series like R&B Divas: Atlanta and Celebrity Fit Club, as well as acting in films such as The Fighting Temptations. Her daughter, Diamond Stone, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a Facebook post, writing, “My mommy is gone.” Fans and fellow artists have since flooded social media with tributes, remembering her powerful voice, trailblazing legacy, and enduring influence on soul and hip-hop music.

Stone is survived by her two children and two grandchildren. She had recently hinted at upcoming projects and a UK tour, making her untimely passing all the more devastating for fans around the world.
