WALKER COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia high school football team is mourning the tragic loss of one of its own after a devastating car crash claimed the life of a beloved player over the weekend.
The young athlete, identified as 16-year-old Blake Raines, a standout on the LaFayette High School football team, was killed in a head-on collision in Walker County on Saturday night.
Another passenger, 19-year-old Hannah Whitten, also died at the scene. A third occupant, a 15-year-old boy, was critically injured and remains hospitalized.
The Walker County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the collision occurred along Highway 193 when the vehicle carrying the teens crossed the centerline and struck another car head-on. Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.

Fellow teammates gathered at the school’s football field Sunday night for a spontaneous candlelight vigil, many wearing their jerseys and embracing each other through tears.
“He always brought energy and positivity to every practice, every game,” one teammate shared. “He was the kind of person who lifted everyone up.”
