Thridarangar Lighthouse
Located approximately 10 km off the coast of Iceland, not far from the Westman Islands, Thridarangar Lighthouse is considered the most isolated lighthouse in the world.
This lighthouse stands on a jagged rock in the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded only by towering waves of icy water crashing violently against the rocks. The name “Thridarangar” means “three rocks” in Icelandic, and the lighthouse was built in 1939 on the tallest and steepest of the three rocks, at a height of 36 meters.
Considered the most inaccessible and solitary lighthouse on the planet, the only way to reach it from the mainland is by air. For this reason, a platform was built during its construction to allow helicopters to land and take off.”
